Hybrid Cars, 5 Reasons the Environment Loves Them

January 15th, 2008 · No Comments

Although the hybrid car trend has been a slow process to get rolling, people are starting to come around to see the many benefits associated with them.

Over the past few years people were very hesitant to buy hybrid cars for various reasons, like the price being a little too high or that they were concerned how long hybrids would be around before they were passed over for the next great vehicle discovery. A lot of people will just generally wait until a few years go by to see what concerns people have or what improvements would come about.

Whatever the reasons behind the slow start, the hybrid vehicle is showing signs of really taking off and taking its place among the automobile elite discoveries. Many of the car consumers that did take a chance on a hybrid vehicle most probably bought the vehicle for the monetary benefits like gas savings or tax incentives.

But by far the biggest reason why hybrid cars are really getting the attention they deserve now, is the growing concern of the environment, the depletion of the ozone and the green house effect. With everyone looking around them and seeing the weird changes in weather patterns and the need SPF 80 sun block, it’s starting to hit home about what each of us can do to help, not only for the environment but for our families and their families.

These are just 5 of the reasons to buy a hybrid vehicle and help get the “save the environment” snowball rolling:

1. Environmental Destruction for the Production of Gas: The dependency on gas is becoming a very big concern for the whole globe. You have to build huge refineries to produce gas, but each one emits more and more chemicals into the air even before the gas hits our gas tanks. Finding new locations to drill for oil are becoming scarce and there is growing public concern about the government wanting to drill in remote protected areas and parks in Alaska for example. With hybrid cars using less gas the hope is that our dependency on gas will diminish saving more of our disappearing natural resources.

2. Car Emissions: It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that we’re putting in an extra $20 to $50 a tank when will fill up today so just the shear savings you’re getting with hybrid vehicle is amazing. But the big difference between a hybrid cars compared to a regular gas vehicle is the gas emissions that they let out into the air. A gas car let’s out large amounts of chemicals like dioxide and nitrogen oxide and it’s all toxic. Now, not even the hybrid is totally clean but their emissions performance is so much better that they reduce emissions by a whopping 90%! That’s so much better than a gas car that the EPA created a special emissions rating just for hybrid vehicles.

3. Damage to Humans: If gas emissions are so bad for the environment which is the whole world, pretty big place…huh, can you image what effects it has on the human body? The human body is fragile at best and when you stuff it full of carbon dioxide, lead and other chemical fumes the body will just give up with excessive doses. Just think of the last time you were sitting at a traffic light with a truck or bus in front of you, you can smell the exhaust and almost feel sick to your stomach. It’s no wonder that cancer, birth defects and other sickly conditions have been linked to emissions.

4. Get on the Environmental Bandwagon: It’s funny how most of us think that a hybrid is an amazing concept but never do anything about it. Granted it’s always tough when there’s more money to put out but with every purchase of a hybrid vehicle, we take one more step to bringing the price down on these eco-friendly cars. Once the price is down to affordable pricing more people will buy them and we’ll start to see serious inroads to helping clean up our environment.

5. Government Participation: It’s no secret that the government is extremely dependant on foreign oil supplies and they have been for years. It’s also not a secret that the environment seems more like a topic to get elected rather than a real target for concern, until recently. Even government has realized that the hybrid vehicle can be a way to minimize their dependency on foreign countries to supply oil and that the environment is a very real concern for their public. So much so that they are offering tax incentives for hybrid owners and many cities are even allowing hybrid cars in carpool and bus lanes as a bonus as well.

Now that’s just 5 reasons why the hybrid vehicle is important for our environment, and if the air we breath isn’t reason enough, then take a look at the savings and other benefits they provide. No one’s saying go out and trade in your gas car for a hybrid tomorrow. All we’re saying is, next time your in the market for a new vehicle, just take a little time to check out some hybrid cars and you might be pleasantly surprised, not only for the car you might buy today but down the road for the future of our children and their children.
